(15 min) Every facility, every service event is different. Here are some insights and tips to be prepared when you engage and connect with older adults and residents.

Lesson #4:  Understanding Senior Health Care & Challenges

(15-20 min) Communication is more important then ever when dealing with isolated and lonely seniors. It helps build relationships, solve problems, ensure understanding, resolve conflicts, and improve accuracy.

Lesson #5: SoulRapha Guide to Senior Engagement-Listening

(10-15 min) The most important part of your conversation is to Be Present. Practice the listening skills from the last lesson. Keep your conversation focused on active listening and reflecting back to the resident. 

Lesson #6: SoulRapha Introduction to Conversation

(5 hours) Interns get to experience the facility environment, mingle with the residents and meet their “Senior Mentors.” 

The concept of a “Senior Mentor” encourages the idea of learning from older adults. 

Lesson #7: Building the Senior Mentor and Intern Relationship

Interns share their experiences with their Senior Mentors on social media, in the community chat area and in a final document. They document what they learned, what they shared, what they can use for their future growth and development.
